too simple-minded?

Am currently feeling quite disturbed by something that I get to know today.

Just when you think the bosses are nice and ok people, it’s sad to realise that they are actually not, or at least after hearing all the things about them, I think they are not. Maybe some things are better to be left in the dark than to know the truth, at least I can still choose to believe that they are nice bosses, and nice bosses do exist!

defu lane no more...

My office has successfully shifted over the weekend. Even though the whole process of packing to shifting only lasted for 2 days, we were already dead tired at the end of it. Didn’t realize that such a small office can actually store so much stuff! The reason why this shifting was done in such a rush is because they are trying to avoid any delay in handing over the old factory to the landlord and thus the need to pay for the rents of both factories. This also means that even though we have already officially moved into the new office, all our office tables and cabinets are still not up yet and so, we are all currently working on recycled and make shift tables. Quite an interesting scene I would say if you were to come to our office now.

Even though most of the things are not ready at the new office, I would think that it is still a much cleaner and better environment to work in as compared to the previous old and gloomy office. Went to explore a bit of the surroundings during lunch time to check out what is available and we were generally quite satisfied with the great amount of eateries and shops as well as the clean and open environment. Well, maybe it may not appear to be that great to those of you who have been to that area, but to us who have been cooped up at defu lane for all these while, this is such a heaven. Guess it is in such circumstances that one really learns to appreciate the things around them.

I was actually feeling a bit sad to leave the old factory last Saturday, not that I will really miss the place, just that I think this is one of those places that I would never stepped in again for no reason in the future. Nevertheless, I am truly glad that I have had the chance to see and work in such an environment, after all it’s an experience that not everyone gets to have...

a busy yet fulfilling week...

It has really been quite a busy week, both at work and at play.

At work, there were some really tight deadlines and it was definitely a record setting for me to actually complete each of the designs within 2 days. As a result, I was quite tired out. But amidst the mad rush, there came a good news that one of the design I had done was quite well-liked by the client and this is really great news to me. It is definitely not easy to come up with something that matches exactly the expectation of the client, and many a times, we have to go through rounds and rounds of amendments before we can finally come out with something of their likings. It may be sheer luck that I managed to come that close to it on the first attempt, but it is definitely a great form of encouragement for me, to continue to produce more good designs (and losing more sleep...).

Went to a karaoke pub with my colleagues and bosses on Monday night and Wow!! my two bosses are really good singers. One sounds like 张学友, and the other like 张信哲. One of my colleagues also sang 周杰伦’s 夜曲 and that really made my bosses’ glasses drop with all his rapping. Went Karaoke again on Friday with my colleagues and it was fun too, to hear all the great songs sang by my colleagues. And the most interesting thing is to actually hear one of my colleagues sing 非玉清’s songs and he really sounds like 非玉清!

Was at vivo city with my other colleague yesterday to source for some retail shop front ideas, as well as to do some shopping. I must say that it was a very fulfilling trip, with some window shopping done, lots of new knowledge learnt plus a hagaan daz ice-cream treat by my colleague. Must really thank her for sharing so much with me and the ice-cream treat and hope that she wasn’t bored by all my questions.

Have really quite enjoyed myself this week, what a fulfilling week it was...

a simple girl in a simple world...

Again, I have successfully survived my first month of work. Things are fine at work, no complains yet and I hope that there won’t be any in the future. Was a bit stressed at times over the design proposals and tight schedule, but it’s fine cos the amount of satisfaction I get in return is more than enough to compensate for whatever stress I had and all the lost of sleep.

Having got my first month’s pay for the job, I was actually feeling quite happy despite that small sum. The feeling this time round is a bit different from the past, it is the kind of “hard-earned” money kind of feeling, I have put in my effort and this is what I have earned, unlike the past, where I just sit there doing nothing and the money just come in every month as scheduled. To me, the money then has no meaning at all. Maybe some of you out there might think that I am stupid to think in this way, but I think I am someone who value satisfaction and happiness much more than monetary gains. And I feel that satisfaction and happiness are something that will really bring you further in whatever things you do in your life than merely monetary benefits, which may, no doubt, sustain your material wants for a short while but this kind of feeling does not last. Or at least, this is how I feel. Or maybe I am just a simple minded person who just wants to be happy doing things that I enjoy...

ah keow's first week @ work...

Yes, I have safely survived my first week at the new workplace.

For the benefit of those who have yet to be told, my new office is actually located at one of those industrial area in the east side and it is a totally contrast to my previous workplace in Orchard Road. Originally, I was a little worried that I might not get used to the distance and condition of the workplace, but I think I have already sort of get used to it in this one week. And in fact, I think I quite like the serenity of the area in the morning and have quite enjoyed my daily walk to the office. The only bad thing is that I have to really look out for all the holes in the uneven ground to avoid falling and hitting onto those heavy vehicles parked along the roadside.

Work wise, I have already got some residential design work on hand and with the help of my colleague, I think I am slowly getting the hang of it. Still a bit slow, but I am happy that I am going somewhere and I must say that I quite enjoy the things I am doing now.

The people there are also quite nice, especially one of my colleagues who has helped me a lot in this one week and I have really learnt quite of bit of things from him.

On the whole, I think I quite like what I am doing now and it really feels good to be learning once again!

summing up...

i think it is time that i should sum up my work life these two and a half years, now that i am moving on to a new chapter in my work life.

Though i have been stagnant these two and a half years, i still feel that it is a route worth traveling. Throughout this journey, i have made some good friends, some friends whom i will really treasure for life. There are also some people whom i wish our paths will never cross again, not that i really hate them so much, just that i think my life will be better off without their presence. It has also made me see the many different sides to a person’s personality. Everyday, its stages plentiful of badmouthing and criticizing scenes behind people’s back, however, there are also heartwarming times when u arrive to the office early in the morning only to find some simple breakfast or gifts on your table.

Work throughout these two and a half years has really been fluctuating. There were times where we really tired ourselves out with all the OTs, but somehow i find them to be quite memorable. On the other hand, there were times where there was simply nothing to do and i just sit there staring at the monitor not knowing what to do. It gets quite depressing after a while and i really dislike this kind of feeling. But I am glad it’s all over now.

One more week to my new job and i really hope to face all the new challenges with a more positive attitude and most importantly, to find back my zest and confidence towards work. Hope that there will be no more complains and things can be much simpler...

Two of my colleagues who have accompanied me through this journey and i would really like to thank them for all that they have done. Think i will definitely miss all the chatting and gossiping sessions with them.

The small working space that i have been facing everyday...

These are the farewell gifts from my colleagues and i really like them, especially the whole set of cds and vcds from my office secretary. Maybe all of you reading this now might find it weird as to why she gave me all these, but it doesn’t matter because i know very well what they meant to her and to me...

Lastly, i would like to share with you this, an extract from the card my colleague gave to me. A set of words that really touches me and i hope that that you will find them meaningful too...

Keep Believing in Yourself and Your Special Dreams

There may be days
when you get up in the morning
and things aren’t the way
you had hoped they would be.
That’s when you have to
tell yourself that things will get better...

There are times when people
disappoint you and let you down,
but those are the times
when you must remind yourself
to trust your own judgements
and opinions,
to keep your life focused on
believing in yourself
and all that you are capable of.

There will be challenges to face
and changes to make in your life,
and it is up to you to accept them.
Constantly keep yourself headed
in the right direction for you.
It may not be easy at times,
but in those times of struggle
you will find a stronger sense
of who you are,
and you will also see yourself
developing into the person
you have always wanted to be.

Life is a journey through time,
filled with many choices;
each of us will experience life
in our own special way.
So when the days come
that are filled with frustration
and unexpected responsibilities,
remember to believe in yourself
and all you want your life to be,
because the challenges and changes
will only help you to find
the dreams that you know
are meant to come true for you

confirmed, guaranteed n chopped...

So this is it... i have just accepted the new job offer. Still lots of worries and uncertainties, but i guess it’s really the time that i got to move on. Like what people always say, opportunities don’t come knocking on your door twice, so i guess it’s a gamble that i have to take. Not sure where this will take me to, but one thing for sure is that i will no longer be standing on this very spot.

Am definitely looking forward to all the new exposures and learning opportunities as well as working with new colleagues. Wish me luck then!

the past 2 weeks...

My apologies for missing in action for quite a while. It was only upon seeing Kelly’s comment that i realized that i haven’t been blogging for a while. i was in fact quite touched to learn that i was actually being missed... hee...

i had finally made the long awaited move in applying for an interior design job, through the help of a previous aki school mate. So, this period of time was spent on getting my resume and portfolio ready for today’s interview. i was in fact quite stressed over it for the past few days (really need to thank ah teng for all the “counseling”!!), but the fact proved that the interview wasn’t as scary as i thought it to be. It came out to be quite a casual talk with the boss. And the verdict is... i was being offered the job. It was definitely great news to me. However, as there are some other factors of consideration, i will only give them an answer early next week. i guess i roughly know what my decision will be, just that i think i still need to reassure myself of certain things before coming to a conclusion.

No matter what my eventual decision will be, i am really very grateful to this friend of mine for all his help. The fact is that i don’t really know him back in school then, and i don’t think i had ever spoken to him before and it is really very nice of him to still offer his help.
