[cny 2006]

It’s Chinese New Year again and as usual, it’s a period of relative visiting and ang bow receiving. Like the past years, we went to my 2nd uncle’s house on the first day of Chinese New Year to send our greetings to my grandma and other relatives. But because we are never close with my mother’s side relatives, there’s not much topic to talk about besides the usual questions like where you are working now, are you attached and when you are getting a boyfriend etc… Other than that, we were just sitting there and staring at the tv while the rest were busy gambling away. And as usual, we will sneak out to catch a movie before going back again to fetch my parent home later in the night.

On the second day, we were at my aunt’s place early in the morning to present incenses and offerings to my grandmother who has already passed away followed by all the cny greetings and gambling.

Being the youngest and because I do not have to start work until 6th February, I am left with no choice but to accompany my mother to my 5th uncle’s house on the third day. Not that I dislike going there so much, it’s just that there’s really not much thing to do there. So, I ended up spending my whole day there looking at them while they were busy gambling away.

Just feel that as the years go by, Chinese New Year celebration no longer seems as fun as before and the thrill of receiving ang bows is no longer there probably because we have all grown up and started earning. In fact, I actually find all these visiting quite tiring. But I do treasure all these valuable time spent with my family.
